When the other driver can’t pay
Uninsured and underinsured drivers are common. Your own policy may be the answer.

Uninsured motorist (UM) coverage
UM coverage on your own policy can pay when the at-fault driver has no insurance, not enough insurance, or leaves the scene.
Two kinds of UM in Georgia
| Type | How it works |
|---|---|
| Add-on (excess) | Adds to the at-fault driver’s coverage |
| Reduced-by | Reduced by the at-fault driver’s coverage |
Your declarations page shows which one you have.
Other policies that may help
- UM on policies of relatives who live with you
- MedPay, if you have it
- Other responsible parties, like an employer
